Day 74 a note from God: Joshua 1-4

Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses.Joshua 1:16-17 NIV

Wow! There is so much in the first four chapters of Joshua: Rahab, The crossing of the Jordan, the building of a memorial. Perhaps, I should finish the sermon series I have been working on about Joshua.

Until then I want to focus on verse 17 of Chapter 1.

At this point, Joshua should have run away!

These people he is leading our delusional!

"Just as we fully obeyed Moses." Are you kidding me?

When was that? Was it when you made the golden calf? or was it when you whined about the manna? or was it when you frequently decided that Egypt was better than where Moses was leading you? When was it that you fully obeyed?

The Israelites have a memory that works like our own.

We remember the convenient truth and like to gloss over our imperfections.

And then we like to blame our imperfections on others. We only did those things because . . . (you know the drill - fill in your blank).

I pray that we might say, "May God be with as He was with the Israelites." They were a sorry lot, but God never gave up on them.
