So many pilgrims come to walk the way of the cross – the Via Dolorosa. The path is not accurate, so why not make your own way … we did. The only thing that is known for sure is the place of Calvary. Are all the spots marked in the church the exact spots? Maybe … Maybe not. Regardless of the exactness this is the place. Could this have been the stone that Jesus body was laid on before he was placed in the tomb?
The rest of our day was spent exploring the city and the
many places that Jesus would have seen or been … standing over this place it was not hard to
imagine the people gathering on the steps waiting to enter the pools of
Bethsaida. A miracle takes place.

These steps were right by the gates going to and coming from the temple in Jesus day. The steps overlooked the ritual cleansing baths – these same baths that were used by Peter to baptize the new believers in Acts. These are the actual steps! We sat here and listened to stories. It really wasn’t hard to imagine Jesus telling stories to the people as they waited and prepared to enter the temple.
Tomorrow we will wander the Old City and try our hand at the
ancient practice of shopping.
