While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them. Numbers 25:1-3 NIV
There is a joke hidden somewhere in this story, but I'll leave that to another day.
Don't get sidetracked by the sex. The problem here is the idol worship. There are many paths that lead us away from God - in this case it is sex. There are countless other stories in the Bible and in our lives of things that lead us away from God.
When God is not first in our lives, something else is. And whatever that is becomes our idol.
As the story goes . . . well let's just say it isn't a good thing to ignore the first commandment.
